Almacén

Almacén

Last week I had the joy of being part of the working process of Almacén, a play by Julián Mesri, developed within the In the Lab program at the Playwrights’ Center.
It was an intense week of exploration, listening, and collective creation. But above all, it was a week of “argentinidad al palo,” as Bersuit puts it.
Julián is an Argentine-American playwright based in New York, and Almacén takes place in Argentina, from its setting, language, and relationships to the emotional universe the play proposes. For me, it was the first time since I’ve been here that I’ve joined a project so deeply Argentine, and that brought with it a sense of familiarity I’m profoundly grateful for, almost like being home again.
A work that is very personal for its author, and at the same time deeply universal.
Thank you, Julián, for these days of argentinidad al palo.
A beautiful team that the Playwrights’ Center once again knew how to bring together.
In the midst of everything we are going through as a city, it felt deeply meaningful to sustain the work, the coming together, and the act of creation.
